Known as the “dreiländereck (D, CH, F)” – the three corner country, where France, Switzerland and Germany touch one another. This is one of the most fascinating parts of Europe. Countrysidewise, culturally and sportwise and with such diversity in its cuisine. There are so many possibilities for different excursions: Lake Constance, Alsace with Colmar and Strasbourg, Switzerland with Basel, the Rhine waterfall at Schaffhausen or further afield Lucerne and Tessin.
Nearby is the “Steinwasen Park”. Explore this park and discover the world’s longest hanging rope-bridge or have a fun day with the family at Germany’s largest theme park at the Europa Park in Rust, or another fun place to visit is the Black Forest leisure park in Löffingen. Take note all those wine connoisseurs among you – go and explore those vineyards on our doorstep and taste the wonderful wine that grows in this sunny region of Baden.
Experience as well all that our picturesque landscape has to offer you by enjoying it in every possible way. Cycling and mountain biking up those steep hills, roller-blading along gentle valley slopes, or just walking or hiking through the Black Forest hills and mountains, breathing in that invigorating mountain air and swimming in those clear mountain lakes – can there be a better way of recharging your batteries!
Every type of sport can be enjoyed here in this wonderful setting, whether its motor cycling, horse-riding, playing golf or swimming. Every sportsman or woman will be more than happy to find here what they are looking for.
The mountains of the “Schauinsland” and the Feldberg (this is the Black Forest’s highest mountain at almost 1500m) offer wonderful opportunities and present nature in its purest form.
It is possible to swim and take a Sauna, enjoy the Roman-Irish steam bath and fitness centre with solarium at Freiburg’s wonderful thermal baths and not far away and also worth a visit is the Cassiopeia thermal baths in Badenweiler. However it is probably just as relaxing and definitely more peaceful to enjoy the natural waters of the Dreisam valley at the lake of Titisee and the lake of Schluchsee or to watch the waterfalls at Triberg.
Winter time has its own special charm, drawing many winter holiday makers to our area with the many possibilities to skiing, snowboarding, crosscountry skiing, carving, sledging, ski-touring and snow-hiking or just simply walking through the snowy landscape. Come and enjoy that Black Forest experience!
Come and discover the Black Forest capital, Freiburg. A city full of charm and “joie de vivre” with the flair of the mediterranean in Germany. Switch off and relax in the midst of babbling brooks (the small waterways that run through Freiburg’s streets) and cheerful people. Amble through the quaint narrow streets, admire the interesting old buildings and the beautiful medieval cathedral and experience the bustling activity of the colourful market in the cathedral square.
Freiburg is a cultural centre full of history and alive with music and theatre, home to many museums with noteworthy collections and many art galleries showing art in all its different art forms.
There are other museums worth visiting in this part of the Black Forest – the openair museum “Vogtsbauernhof” showing the history at the region from the 16th to the 17th century. The “Schnitzerstube” in the Münstertal which shows the local craft of wood-carving as it was first practised in this area, the glass-blowing centre in Todtnau, the Ski-museum in Hinterzarten and the Silvermine “Teufelsgrund” and many more.
